Jack, Skye and I have been thinking about the genre we might like to use for our two minute film opening and we have decided on either an Action, a drama or a thriller. To help us understand what we would need to include in this genre of film opening, we researched the conventions in each.

Conventions of an Action

> Fast cuts

> Has an Antagonist and protagonist

> Tense, non-diegetic music-puts audiences on the edge of their seats.

> Sudden noises (emphasised gun shots)-makes audience jump

Dark, low key lighting

Non realistic

Fast moving plot that shows protagonist facing challenges

Conventions

Conventions of a Drama

> Always has an Antagonist and a Protagonist

Fast paced camera work and editing

Non-realistic

> Protagonist faces death defying tasks

> Fast moving narrative

Energetic experience for audience

Conventions of a Thriller

> Aims to create suspense and excitement for the audience

> Usually includes busy streets and urban areas

voilence or voilent intent is cntral to most thrillers

> Often reveals the workings of a particular institution, such as the police, army or government

> Thriller centres on injudtice in society but solves these wrongs

> Hero is often an outsider, isolated and secretive
